Earlier today I made a tweet about the many cameos from various PlayStation franchises that were visible in the recent gameplay footage of Astro’s Playroom on PlayStation 5, and mentioned that I hoped to see Gravity Rush referenced as well somewhere in the game. In response, one of our followers @HusseinAlBasr20 tweeted a screenshot from the game’s trailer (released back in June), showing that the game does in fact include a Gravity Rush cameo! In the screenshot we can see what appears to be a bot with Kat’s hairstyle and hairband juggling an apple and walking vertically on a wall! It’s clearly a reference to Gravity Rush, but I don’t recall anyone pointing out Kat’s cameo in the trailer until now. You can view the cameo at around the 1m12 mark in the trailer.
Astro’s Playroom comes pre-installed on every PS5 and first impressions have been very positive. The game is a showcase for the capabilities of the new DualSense controller, but at the same time it’s also shaping up to be a great platformer in its own right, and an homage to PlayStation’s past both in hardware and software. It’s great to see Team Asobi took the time to include cameos not only of the biggest PlayStation franchises, but also of the likes of Concrete Genie, Sly Cooper, Puppeteer and indeed Gravity Rush!
